The program only admits scientists who have met the program`s established criteria. Before offering you a place, we will invite you to an interview. You will have the opportunity to learn a little more about our department. We are looking for candidates who have some understanding of the role of a social worker as well as the motivation to become a social worker. Motivational and preparation for social work education include related work or volunteer experiences, as well as bachelor`s or master`s degree programs in social and behavioural sciences or social work. In the absence of these, weight will be given to the candidate`s participation in community activities or organizations committed to humanistic values.

CUNY York College`s MSW program does not currently offer a part-time program. MSW Fellows must attend 2nd year evenings and Saturdays (Fall 2022 and Fall 2023). In addition, 2-3 days are required for placement in the field.

* Courses and field placements can be taken on the same day. In-person classes are held in the evenings so you can keep your current job. Have obtained at least a B+ average from the Master`s degree (MSW or a related discipline) and at least one degree in Social Work (BSW or MSW). In exceptional cases, applicants who do not have a degree in social work may be considered if they have a related degree. In this case, candidates must also demonstrate extensive experience in the field of social welfare or municipal/social services. York College of the City University of New York (CUNY) does not require graduate entrance exams such as the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) for admission to CUNY York College`s MSW program. We strongly recommend that applicants who have been denied admission to the MSW program wait at least one academic year before reapplying. Individuals who do not have a BSW but have completed the first year of a two-year MSW degree (including the internship) can also apply. This first year of MSW work is only the basis of admission and does not count towards the credit for the York MSW. Individuals applying to complete the MSW program at CUNY York College must meet all requirements for a degree from York College of the City University of New York, as defined in the last graduate report card in effect at the time of admission to the program.

The current program structure is focused on professional programs. The length of the course you need to take depends on your current English test scores and what you need to improve to meet our English language requirements. The current demand for skilled social workers is high in the statutory and voluntary sectors. All applicants are encouraged to submit their application as soon as possible, as admission will be closed once program capacity is reached. Applications can be submitted up to one year before the start of the program. Candidates are therefore strongly advised to apply as early as possible and submit all application documents. Earlier admission is best suited to scholarship eligibility, field placement, and course section availability. All students admitted to the MSW program must attend a mandatory orientation. Important consideration: Plan to balance the full-time MSW program (including classes, field internship hours, and other program requirements) with additional personal or professional commitments and responsibilities.

You also submit documents that do not contribute to your final grade. This allows you to get feedback on your progress and understanding before submitting a graded work. As part of your second year, you will complete your last legally required internship, which will last 100 days. You will also choose a module that will allow you to delve deeper into a particular branch of social work. The two-year MSW focuses on the critical practice of social work and provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to advance their careers. You will graduate with the same knowledge and skills as any other MSW social work student at York – prepared for leadership roles focused on promoting social justice and pursuing social transformation, as well as for further study at PhD level. Those interested in this programme are strongly encouraged to apply for our BSW post-graduation as well.) A high school diploma from an accredited college or university. Applicants must have extensive liberal arts experience that includes a degree in social, behavioral, and life sciences with at least 60 liberal arts credits.

Courses that relate to different cultures, social conditions and social issues are evaluated positively. Academic recognition is not granted for life experience in lieu of field training or course requirements. ERM is NOT required. Our MSW program takes a research and teaching approach that places oppression and marginalization (based on race, class, ability, sexual orientation, age, gender, and religious/spiritual affiliation) at the heart of understanding how people who use social services are constructed as “needy.” .
